Streamlining Client Management with RPG API Express

Efficient Data Management: A Roadmap to Success

Throughout the years, we’ve come to learn that efficient data management is crucial for organizations to streamline their operations and deliver exceptional services – we hope to share how that happened here.

This three-part case study chronicles how Gary Wadhwani, an RPG development contractor working with a large not-for-profit membership organization, successfully integrated the the org’s membership and credentialing systems, built integrations with DocuSign using webhooks, and communicated with Cvent (an event management company).

In this post, we’ll see how Gary achieved seamless data exchange between the organization’s Microsoft SQL and IBM i environments, resulting in improved data accuracy and overall business efficiency.

Exploring Solutions

The prominent organization, which helps dietitians worldwide, faced a significant hurdle in managing their membership and credentialing processes – they needed to maintain separate databases for membership (via Microsoft SQL Server) and credentialing (on the IBM i). Efficient data flow between these two databases was important to ensure they had accurate and up-to-date information.

The previously mentioned Gary Wadhwani, an RPG contractor and owner of Computer Concepts, Inc., recognized the need for a solution that could facilitate this data exchange effectively.

Bridging Microsoft SQL and IBM i with RPG API Express

After gathering some options, Gary eventually landed on us, and after a few exchanges with our development team, addressed the data management challenges facing his client by using RPG API Express.

Fortunately, RXS leverages SOAP-based APIs, which were perfectly aligned with his client’s existing setup requirements. This compatibility allowed for a seamless data exchange between the Microsoft and IBM i platforms.

By integrating RXS, Gary was able to eliminate data silos and enable real-time updates, significantly improving the organizations data accuracy and streamlining membership and credentialing processes.

Impact

Implementing RXS brought about transformative changes within the organization. Having quickly realized the versatility of RXS, the org expanded its use to manage other aspects of business as well. RXS’ impact can be summarized as follows:

  • Streamlined operations: Gary’s client successfully streamlined various processes beyond membership and credentialing. Other important tasks such as invoicing and customer creation have been integrated into the system too.
  • Improved accuracy: Integrating RXS eliminated the need for manual data entry and reduced the possibility of human errors. Real-time data exchange between the Microsoft SQL Server and IBM i databases now ensures that all information is up to date.
  • Enhanced productivity: With the automation and integration capabilities of RXS, the org has experienced increased productivity in its RPG operations. Time-consuming manual tasks have been minimized, with some eliminated, allowing the IT staff to focus on more value-added activities and deliver better services to their members.

Future Plans for Using RXS

Having witnessed the significant positive impact of RXS in their organization, Gary’s client took on some ambitious future plans for further utilizing our powerful solution. Initiatives we’ll touch on in the next posts include:

  1. Building with webhooks: Gary found some clever ways to implement webhooks within his RPG API Express programs to help connect with DocuSign APIs.
  2. Connecting with Cvent: The organization needed to connect with the event management company Cvent to support its annual conference, which draws over 10,000 attendees.

Successfully implementing RXS has revolutionized the orgs’ membership and credentialing processes – and made Gary Wadhwani’s RPG-based API development a breeze. Exchanging data between Microsoft and IBM i platforms, facilitated by RXS, has resulted in improved accuracy, streamlined operations, and enhanced productivity across the board. This is just the beginning; in the next case study, we’ll see how Gary used RXS to make calls via the REST and SOAP architectural styles, helping him communicate with multiple APIs.
